Hans Schroeder 1933-2009

Hans Schroeder of Emmetsburg died Wednesday, Nov. 25, 2009, at Palo Alto County Hospital in Emmetsburg. He was 76.

Funeral service for Mr. Schroeder was Saturday, Nov. 28, at Bethany Lutheran Church in Emmetsburg. The Rev. Steve Ellerbusch officiated.

Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery, Emmetsburg. The Martin-Mattice Funeral Home in Emmetsburg was in charge of arrangements.

Hans Max Louis Peter Schroeder was born Sept. 28, 1933, in Busdorf, Germany, the son of Max and Annette (Paulsen)?Schroeder. He received his education in Germany. In April 1953, Hans came to the United States and made his home with an aunt, Else “Ellie”?Janssen, and her family near Palmer. In 1954 he moved to a farm south of Emmetsburg.

On Sept. 27, 1959, Hans and Phyllis Simonsen were married at Bethany Lutheran Church in Emmetsburg. The couple moved to a farm north of Emmetsburg in 1976 where they made their home. In 2001 Hans retired from farming and they moved into Emmetsburg. Along with his farming, Hans also worked part time as a mechanic at Max’s Auto Service and Palo Alto County Implement.

Survivors include his wife, Phyllis of Emmetsburg; his children, Deborah (Cal)?Foster, Mary (Ron)?Soppeland and Mark (Connie) Schroeder; seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Also surviving are two brothers, Ferdinand Schroeder of Selk, Germany and Karl Heinz Schroeder of Busdorf, Germany.

Mr. Schroeder was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Anni Bohme; and a half brother, Erick Metzger.
