Fabian M. Halder 1926-2009

RUTHVEN — Funeral service for Fabian M. Halder of Ruthven is 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 30, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ruthven. The Rev. Peter Nguyen will officiate.

Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Ruthven. Military rites will be performed at the grave site. The Martin-Mattice Funeral Home in Ruthven is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Halder died Saturday, Sept. 26, 2009, at Palo Alto County Hospital in Emmetsburg. He was 83.

Fabian Michael Halder was born June 18, 1926, in Pocahontas, the son of Fred and Annie (Flaherty)?Halder. He attended school in Pocahontas and graduated from Ruthven High School in 1945.

Fabian served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was called back to service during the Korean War.

On Sept. 22, 1955, Fabian Halder and Margaret J. Haar were married in Ruthven. Fabian farmed near Ruthven for many years.

Fabian was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Ruthven American Legion. He served as Calvary Cemetery’s sexton for over 20 years. He was also a past member of the Ruthven Fire Agency.

Survivors include his children, Don (Becky)?Halder of Ruthven, Gary (Diana)?Halder of Spirit Lake, Craig (Teresa)?Halder of Olathe, KS, and Kent (Cindy)?Halder of Jesup; friend, Arvilla Sassman of Dickens; ten grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Also surviving are two brothers, Jerome Halder of Iowa Falls and Tom “Clair”?(Mary) Halder of Webster City; and a sister, Mary Ann Truog of Emmetsburg.

Mr. Halder was preceded in death by his parents; two infant siblings; and his wife, Margaret, in 2001.
