GRAETTINGER — Funeral service for Steven Wegener was Monday, Aug. 31, at Bethel Lutheran Church in Graettinger. The Joyce-Alesch Funeral Home in Graettinger was in charge of arrangements. Mr. Wegener died Wednesday, Aug. 26, 2009, at his home in Graettinger. He was 55. Steven Ray Wegener was born June 25, 1954, in Algona, the son of Norman and June (Grethen)?Wegener. He was confirmed at Bethel Lutheran Church in Graettinger and he was a 1972 graduate of Graettinger Community School.

Steve Wegener and Pam Helmich were married Nov. 17, 2001, in Las Vegas, NV. Steve farmed in Graettinger and worked for River Valley Telephone. In 1989 Steve left Graettinger for Hawaii where he worked building golf courses with Wadsworth Golf Course Construction for 17 years. Steve traveled to many different states and always made sure his grandchildren and their families had opportunities for great vacations. In 2006 Steve and Pam returned to Graettinger. Steve worked at the Emmetsburg Building Center until the time of his death. Steve enjoyed riding his motorcycle, deep sea fishing and taking care of his yard. He loved to spend time with family, friends and especially his grandchildren. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Pam of Graettinger; his father, Norman of Forest City; a daughter, Maggie Wegener of Mason City; two brothers, Terry (Maryann) Wegener of Lake Mills and Bruce (Marcia)?Wegener of Allen, TX; sister, Beth (Mike)?Kezar of Forest City; three step-daughters, Tara (Todd) Hansen of Spirit Lake, Tanya (Thad)?Louwagie of Emmetsburg and Amanda (Jeremy)?Biddle of Emmetsburg; mother-in-law, Mary Beschorner of Graettinger; and six grandchildren, Ethan and Kaylie Thompson, Cole Hanson, Kyle and Alexis Louwagie, and Braxton Biddle. Mr. Wegener was preceded in death by his mother, June.
