JEFFERSON CITY, MO -Wendell Leo Hanson, 80, of Jefferson City, MO, passed away Monday, Aug. 3, 2009, at the Ashley Manor Care Center in Boonville, MO.
He was born Aug.19, 1928, in Webster City, son of the late Estelle Leo and Evelyn Louise (Larson) Hanson. In 1945 he received his diploma from Emmetsburg High School in Emmetsburg and later graduated from the American Institute of Business in Grinnell. He was united in marriage with Helen Wandling on May 3, 1958, who preceded him in death on January 6, 1960. On Feb. 10, 1962, he married Jeane Catherine Fink of Jefferson City, MO, who passed away September 3, 1998.
Wendell worked with passion for over 30 years at Farmland Industries in Iowa and Missouri – at one time holding the position of Executive Director of Field Sales. As a United States Marine, he proudly served in the Korean War until being honorably discharged as a Corporal First Class in 1953. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Jefferson City, MO, Freemason, and initiate of the Delta Chi International Fraternity.
In his free time, Wendell loved the game of golf, enjoyed fishing, sports, traveling and maintained, until his passing, a fascination for airplanes – no doubt attributable to him being a licensed pilot from the 1940’s through the 1960’s.
He is survived by one daughter, Nancy Windsor (husband Darin) of Boonville, MO; one son, David Hanson (wife Kristin) of Eisenach, Germany; one sister, Marilyn Naig of Emmetsburg; one grandson, Brett Windsor of Boonville, MO; and many cherished nieces and nephews.
Wendell was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Hanson; and a sister, Carolyn Naig.
