Hazel M. Norris 1911-2009

Funeral service for Hazel M. Norris of Emmetsburg is 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 29, at St. Paul?Lutheran Church in Emmetsburg. The Rev. Dennis W. Angland will officiate.

Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Emmetsburg. The Martin-Mattice Funeral Home in Emmetsburg is in charge.

Visitation is today, Tuesday, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mrs. Norris, 97, died Saturday, July 25, 2009, at the Emmetsburg Care Center.

Hazel Marie Norris, daughter of Herbert and Mary (Norland)?Knudson, was born Oct. 19, 1911, in Depew. She was educated in Palo Alto County and was a lifelong Emmetsburg area resident.

Hazel was married to Bud (Ivan)?Walker. To this union four children were born:?Betty Hessenius (Jim) Crawmer of Emmetsburg, Jim (Lela) Walker of Anamosa, Kenny (Helen)?Walker of Spencer, and Don (Susan)?Walker of Emmetsburg.

They were divorced and on Feb. 9, 1959, Hazel and Harry Norris (aka Jack Calentine)?were married. Mr. Norris passed away in February 1986 and Hazel continued to maintain her home until last December when she entered the Emmetsburg Care Center due to ill health.

Hazel was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church. She loved family gatherings and enjoyed the lake and fishing with family and friends.

Survivors include her sons, Jim and Don; son-in-law Jim Crawmer; and daughter-in-law, Helen Walker; 19 grandchildren, 37 great grandchildren, nine great, great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Norris was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harry; daughter, Betty; son, Kenny; grandson, Mike Walker; an infant granddaughter; four brothers, Joe, Christian, Elmer and Eldon Knudson; and four sisters, Alma Cole of California, Berniece Hickey of Estherville, Carla Benschotter of Fairmont, MN, and an infant sister, Bessie.
