Elmer D. Ehrig 1928-2009

Funeral service for Elmer D. Ehrig of Mallard is 1:30 p.m. today, Thursday, May 8, at the Martin-Mattice Funeral Home in Emmetsburg. The Rev. David A. Morris will officiate. Burial is in Ellington Cemetery, Mallard.

Mr. Ehrig died Sunday, May 3, 2009, at the Pocahontas Manor. He was 81.

Elmer Dale Ehrig, son of Louie and Catherine (Clausen)?Ehrig, was born March 19, 1928, near Webb. He received his education at Garfield Consolidated School.

On Sept. 21, 1947, Elmer was married to Dorothy Bannister. To this union nine children were born. Elmer farmed for many years near Mallard. He also enjoyed raising horses and showing ponies. Dorothy died in 1965.

Elmer was married to Vera Ridgeway on Dec. 1, 1978.

Surviving are his children, Linda (Michael)?Kozora of Washta, Beverly (Joe)?Feeney of LeMars, Sally Ehrig of Mallard, John Ehrig of Estherville, James Ehrig of Dallas, TX, and Mary (Steve)?Waltman of Harris; 19 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren and four great, great grandchildren.

Mr. Ehrig was preceded in death by his parents; his wives; brothers, Harold and Edward; sisters, Viola, Lucille and Evelyn; sons, Donald and Lyle; and a daughter, Tina.
