Sgt. LeRoy O. Webster
HARTLEY — Funeral service for U.S. Army Sgt. LeRoy Otis Webster, 28, of Hartley is 10 a.m. Saturday, May 2, at the Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn High School gymnasium, 300 North 8th Avenue West, Hartley. Father Tim Hogan will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery at Hartley.
Visitation is Friday, May 1, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Hartley Funeral Home, 820 2nd Street NE. The family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Sgt. Webster was killed in combat while on patrol in Kirkuk Province in northern Iraq on Saturday, April 25, 2009.
LeRoy was born June 21, 1980, in Spencer, the son of Donnie and Crystal Webster. He graduated from Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn High School in 1999 where he wrestled, and played on the golf and baseball teams.
During his military career, LeRoy had received numerous awards and decorations, including the Army Commendation Medal and the Army Achievement Medal. He was the 71st person with ties to Iowa to die in Iraq or Afghanistan from combat, illness or accident since March 2003.
Survivors include his wife, Jessica, who was his high school sweetheart; and three young daughters, Natasha, Kaydence and Jaydn. Also surviving are his parents, Donnie and Crystal Webster of Hartley; his grandmother, Maxine Webster of Emmetsburg; sister and brothers, Susan Walker of Emmetsburg, David Webster of Emmetsburg and Willie Webster of Spencer.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Dale Webster.
