William J. Weinzetl 1924-2009

MALLARD — William J. Weinzetl died Sunday, Feb. 22, 2009, at PARC?Hall in Emmetsburg. He was 85.

Funeral service is 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 27, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Mallard.

Visitation is prior to the service, from 9 to 11 a.m., at St. Mary’s.

William Jerome Weinzetl was born Jan. 7, 1924, to Anthony and Alvera (Namer) Weinzetl in Mallard. He was raised and educated in Mallard, attending St. Mary’s Catholic School. He worked as a farm hand until 1946 when he entered the U.S. Army on Jan. 28, serving as a medical technician in the 172nd Station Hospital in Japan. He was honorably discharged on April 13, 1947, at Fort Sheridan, IL. Bill returned to Mallard and farmed with his father until his retirement. He had been a resident at PARC?Hall since 2003.

Bill was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and the Mallard Fire Department where he served as fire chief.

Survivors include his niece, Lovice Goodchild of Mallard; great nieces, Connie Goodchild of Sioux City, Mrs. Vera (Max)?Marckmann of Fontanelle, Mrs. Coleen (Eric)?Petersen of Sioux City, and Mrs. Vickie (Tony)?Drake of Techumseh, MI; great nephews, J.D. (Wendy)?Goodchild of Storm Lake, and A.J. (Judi)?Goodchild of Mallard; and ten great, great nieces and nephews.

Mr. Weinzetl was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Michael and Bernard; a sister, Eileen Jacobs; brother-in-law, James Jacobs; nephew-in-law, Jack Goodchild; and great niece Barbara Goodchild.
