Mary E. Kenyon 1916-2009

Funeral service for Mary E. Kenyon of Emmetsburg was Monday, Feb. 2, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Emmetsburg. Celebrant was the Rev. Thomas Hart from St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Mallard.

Burial was in St. John’s Catholic Church, Emmetsburg. The Martin-Mattice Funeral Home in Emmetsburg was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Kenyon died Thursday, Jan. 29, 2009, at the Emmetsburg Care Center. She was 92.

Mary E. Kenyon, daughter of Joseph R. and Gladys (Patterson)?Hotka, was born Sept. 28, 1916, in Johnson County, Iowa. Mary received her education in rural schools near Riverside and graduated from St. Mary’s High School in Riverside in 1934.

Mary continued her education and graduated from Brown’s Business College in Iowa City. She worked in the business office of Mercy Hospital and later at Miller Trucking Company and Iowa State Bank and Trust Company of Iowa City.

On April 6, 1953, Mary and Lyle C. Kenyon were married at St. Wenceslaus Church in Iowa City. The couple farmed in the Mallard area until 1978 when they retired and moved to Emmetsburg.

Surviving are two sons and their wives, Joseph and Peggy Kenyon of Mallard, and Robert and Melanie Kenyon of Muscatine; a daughter, Colleen Siebels and Ken Llewellyn of Hastings, MN; eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Also surviving are two brothers, Donald and Florence Hotka of Davenport and Philip Hotka of Iowa City; and brother-in-law and his wife, Melvin and Valerie Morehouse of Camarillo, CA.

Mrs. Kenyon was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lyle; and a sister,?Kathleen Morehouse.
