Juliann M. Pettit 1935-2009

Funeral service for Juliann “Franny” Pettit of Emmetsburg is 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 7, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Emmetsburg. The Rev. Dennis Angland will officiate.

Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Emmetsburg. The Martin-Mattice Funeral Home in Emmetsburg is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation is after 4 p.m. today, Tuesday, Jan. 6, at the Martin-Mattice Funeral Home.

Mrs. Pettit died Saturday, Jan. 3, 2009, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, MN. She was 73.

Juliann Marie Pettit was born Dec. 1, 1935, in Whittemore, the daughter of George and Edna (Kuecker) Maahs. She graduated from Whittemore High School.

On Oct. 29, 1955, Julie and Ronald Pettit were married in Whittemore. The couple made their home on a farm near Cylinder. Julie helped Ron on the farm as well as being a devoted mother and homemaker. She also worked for a short time at Berkley’s in Emmetsburg. Julie was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Emmetsburg.

Survivors include her children, Dave and Cindy Pettit of Cylinder, Jim Pettit of Fort Dodge, Jeri and John Heddinger of Emmetsburg, and Sandy and Les Zearing; 12 grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Also surviving are brothers and sisters, Bob (Pat) Maahs of Algona, Kate Gade of West Bend, Paul (LeAnn) Maahs of Rogers, MN, Dick Maahs of Litchfield, MN, Marilyn (Merlin) Dietrich of Plover, Bill (Darlene) Maahs of Aurora, NE, Ellen (Don) Manley of McAllen, TX; and brother-in-law, Ron Emery of Blairsville, GA.

Mrs. Pettit was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ronald; a brother, Don Maahs; a sister, Eileen Emery; sisters-in-law, Mimi Maahs and Mary Ellen Maahs; and brother-in-law, Milford Gade.
