Amelia Bendixen 1907-2008
MALLARD — Funeral service for Amelia V. Bendixen of Mallard was Monday, Dec. 22, at the United Methodist Church in Mallard. Burial was in Clinton Garfield Cemetery, Rolfe. The Harris Funeral Home in Mallard was in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Bendixen died Thursday, Dec. 18, 2008, at the Emmetsburg Care Center. She was 101.
Amelia Viola (Shaw) was born Sept. 23, 1907, near Rolfe, the daughter of Azro K. Shaw and Carrie K. Hertz. She was raised and educated in Rolfe, attending the DMT School and Rolfe High School.
On Sept. 15, 1930, Amelia and Clarence Bendixen were married in Gilmore City. The couple lived in Gilmore City and then moved to Mallard in 1941 where they lived during their married lives.
Amelia worked at the Mallard Post Office and also at Mallard Public School as a cook. She was a member of the United Methodist church in Mallard where she was active in the circles of the church, the Royal Neighbors of America and the Order of Eastern Star. Amelia enjoyed quilting, crocheting, feeding the birds and playing cards.
Amelia had been a resident at the Emmetsburg Care Center since April 2007.
Surviving are her children: Jim Bendixen of Emmetsburg, Larry Bendixen of Mallard, Lois Reinders of Spirit Lake and Janice (Roger) Brown of Mallard; 16 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren and six great, great grandchildren.
Mrs. Bendixen was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Clarence, in 1977; a daughter, Jeanette, in 1985; sisters, Ila and Loretta; a granddaughter and grandson.
