Arlene Hoben Boblit 1917-2008

RUTHVEN — Funeral service for Arlene Hoben Boblit of Ruthven was Monday, Dec. 8, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ruthven. Concelebrants were the Rev. Peter Nguyen and the Rev. Tom Geelan.

Burial was in Calvary Cemetery, Ruthven. The Martin-Mattice Funeral Home in Ruthven was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Boblit died Friday, Dec. 5, 2008, at the Ruthven Community Care Center. She was 91.

Arlene Boblit, daughter of Roy and Ella (Burke) Heighton, was born Oct. 6, 1917, in Milford. She graduated from St. Mary’s Academy in Emmetsburg.

On Oct. 6, 1937, Arlene and Earl Hoben were married in Emmetsburg.

Arlene married Gene Boblit in Ruthven on June 2, 1973.

Arlene worked at Schurg Grocery Store and later at Hoben Sundries. She then worked for Maurice Brennan as a bookkeeper at Brennan Electric in Emmetsburg.

Arlene was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ruthven.

Surviving are her children, Sharon Baloun of Lakefield, MN, Ellen Hoben of Ruthven, Shirley (Roger) Krieg of Ruthven, Martha (Ken) Dyer of Ruthven, and Bill (Julie) Hoben of Iowa City; daughter-in-law, Joan Hoben of Laurens; 21 grandchildren, 44 great grandchildren and six great, great grandchildren. Also surviving are stepchildren, Jim (Sarah) Boblit of Bettendorf, Mike (Carol) Boblit of Davenport, Tom (Susan) Boblit of Spencer, Bill Boblit of Emmetsburg, Jerry Boblit of Richmond, WI, and Barbara (Richard) Larson of Ruthven. Mrs. Boblit was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands; a sister, Gwen Kelly; a son, Jim Hoben; grandson, Quint Dyer; great granddaughter, Melissa Storey; and son-in-law Francis Baloun.
