Frank Edward Manwarren was born Feb.14, 1916, in Emmetsburg, the son of James and Laura (Hartiger) Manwarren and the oldest of 12 brothers and sisters. He attended school in Emmetsburg through the sixth grade and helped at home until he was 15. Frank then left home and began working as a hired man for farmers in the Emmetsburg area.

On July 15, 1942, Frank was drafted into the U.S. Army. He was stationed in the Aluetian Islands during World War II and earned his Honorable Discharge on Nov. 3, 1945. Following his discharge, Frank returned home and began working as a hired man for Martin “Doc” and Theresa Simmons near Graettinger.

In 1965, the couple moved to rural Fairmont where they continued to operate a Rosen Farm. Frank and Dode enjoyed spending their winters in Arizona and in 1976, they moved to Fairmont. In 1980, Frank retired from farming.

In his spare time, Frank enjoyed fishing. He especially treasured the many fishing trips to Canada, South Dakota, and Northern Minnesota. Together, Frank and Dode cherished 50 wonderful years of marriage before her passing on July 17, 1999. Frank continued to live in his home until October 2004 when he moved to Ingelside Assisted Living Home.
