Frank E. Manwarren 1916-2008
FAIRMONT, MN — Funeral services for Frank E. Manwarren, 92, of Fairmont, MN, will be Tuesday, Dec. 2, at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Fairmont.
Burial will be in the Lakeside Cemetery in Fairmont with Military Honors presented by the Martin County VFW Post #1222 and the Lee C. Prentice American Legion Post #36. The Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont is in charge of arrangements.
Frank passed away Thursday, Nov. 27, 2008, at the Valley Vue Care Center in Armstrong, IA.
Frank Edward Manwarren was born Feb.14, 1916, in Emmetsburg, the son of James and Laura (Hartiger) Manwarren and the oldest of 12 brothers and sisters. He attended school in Emmetsburg through the sixth grade and helped at home until he was 15. Frank then left home and began working as a hired man for farmers in the Emmetsburg area.
On July 15, 1942, Frank was drafted into the U.S. Army. He was stationed in the Aluetian Islands during World War II and earned his Honorable Discharge on Nov. 3, 1945. Following his discharge, Frank returned home and began working as a hired man for Martin “Doc” and Theresa Simmons near Graettinger.
Frank was united in marriage to Dora “Dode” (Simmons) Chirstiansen on July 1, 1946, in Stewartville, MN. They farmed in Algona, Swea City, and Armstrong until 1957, when they moved to East Chain, MN, where they farmed a Rosen Farm until 1965. During their time in East Chain, the couple took in Gary Lawrence and helped him finish his education. Gary graduated from East Chain School in 1958.
In 1965, the couple moved to rural Fairmont where they continued to operate a Rosen Farm. Frank and Dode enjoyed spending their winters in Arizona and in 1976, they moved to Fairmont. In 1980, Frank retired from farming.
In his spare time, Frank enjoyed fishing. He especially treasured the many fishing trips to Canada, South Dakota, and Northern Minnesota. Together, Frank and Dode cherished 50 wonderful years of marriage before her passing on July 17, 1999. Frank continued to live in his home until October 2004 when he moved to Ingelside Assisted Living Home. In January 2006, Frank moved to Valley Vue Care Center in Armstrong and was blessed to meet many new people and make wonderful new friends.
Left to cherish his memory are his three sons, Donald Manwarren of Fairmont, MN, and his special friend Glenda Ackerman; Roger Manwarren and his wife, Kim of Ceylon, MN; and a step-son, Larry Christiansen and his wife, Rosalie of Osage Beach, MO; eight grandchildren, Theresa (Manwarren) Maldonado of Baltimore, MD; Jill Manwarren of Mankato, MN; Ryan Manwarren of U.S.A.F; Nicole Manwarren of San Diego, CA; Melanie (Manwarren) Anderson of Armstrong; Molly (Manwarren) Roben of Sherburn, MN; Katie Manwarren of Ceylon, MN; Cindy (Christiansen) Funke of Camdenton, MO; and Miles Christiansen of Linn Creek, MO; seven great-grandchildren, Grant Manwarren, Sommer Fritsche, Brody Fritsche, Evan Roben, Joshua Roben, Kyle Funke, and Rayne Christiansen.
Also surviving are two brothers, John Manwarren and Orville Manwarren both of Emmetsburg; five sisters, Evelyn Moran of Emmetsburg; Lucillle Allen of Emmetsburg; Marie Stoulil of West Bend; JoAnn Nickles of Emmetsburg; and Virginia Steile of Olewin.
In addition to his parents, Frank is preceded in death by three brothers, Gene Manwarren, Bob Manwarren, and an infant brother, James Manwarren; and one sister, Loretta Poland.
