Henry ‘Jack’ Miller 1933-2008

APLINGTON — Henry “Jack” Miller, age 74, of Dumont, was born Dec. 27, 1933, the son of Henry J. and Hermina Bohlen Miller in Butler County, Iowa. He graduated from Aplington High School in 1952. Jack enlisted in the U.S.Army during the Korean War.

Jack was united in marriage with Norma Jean Schermer on May 29, 1959, in Ackley. The couple lived in Emmetsburg the majority of their married life. Jack was employed as a line foreman for Cornbelt Power throughout his career. Jack and Norma moved to the Aplington area and retired in 1991.

Jack was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Parkersburg. He was a member of the Aplington Amvets where he had served as past Post Commander. He currently was a member of the Parkersburg American Legion in Parkersburg.

Jack enjoyed watching nature, the eagles and birds and working in his garden. He was a big sports fan but most of all, he loved his family and friends, especially his two grandsons.

Jack died Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2008, at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo of natural causes. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Henry Miller; one sister, Jane Muller; and two brothers-in-law, Balis Card and Orville Muller.

Jack is survived by his wife of nearly 50 years, Norma Jean Miller, Dumont; one son, Lance Trae (Cheryl Kay) Miller, of Johnston; two grandchildren; two brothers, Ervin (Adelyn) Miller, Aplington, and Donald (Lucy) Miller, Aplington, and one sister, Irene Card, Ackley.

Funeral service was Friday, Nov.21, at Bethel Lutheran Church, Parkersburg, with burial in Pleasant View Cemetery, Aplington.
