Lawrence Gravlund 1908-2008

Funeral service for Lawrence Gravlund of Ayrshire is 10:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 21, at the United Methodist Church in Ayrshire. The Rev. Roger Maize will officiate.

Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Emmetsburg.

Visitation is after 4 p.m. today, Thursday, Nov. 20, at the Martin-Mattice Funeral Home in Emmetsburg.

Mr. Gravlund died Monday, Nov. 17, 2008, at the Ruthven Community Care Center at age 100.

Lawrence Edvin Gravlund, son of Andrew and Hannah (Gangstad) Gravlund, was born May 13, 1908, in Palo Alto County, Iowa. He received his education in country school west of Emmetsburg.

Lawrence was united in marriage to Bernice Enger. After Bernice’s death, Lawrence was later married to Dorothy Farlow. They made their home near Ayrshire where Lawrence farmed until retiring in 1982. He and Dorothy moved to Ayrshire. For the past four and a half years Lawrence resided at the Ruthven Community Care Center. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Ayrshire.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy, of Ayrshire; his step children, Barbara Bennett of South Dakota, Richard Farlow of Ayrshire and Jerry Farlow of Maine; and a special niece, Diane Hagenson of Arizona.

Mr. Gravlund was preceded in death by his first wife, Bernice; his parents; four sisters and eight brothers.
