Julia Cottrell 1956-2008

OSCEOLA — Funeral mass for Julia Cottrell will be Thursday, Nov. 6, at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Osceola. Burial will be in Woodburn Cemetery. Kale Funeral Home in Osceola is in charge of arrangements.

Julia and husband Jim passed away from injuries in a pedestrian auto accident while walking near their home west of Osceola on Thursday, Oct. 31, 2008. Jul was 52 years of age.

Julia “Jul” Marie Cottrell, daughter of Harry O’Connor and Hilda (Hallbrick) O’Connor was born April 24, 1956 in Emmetsburg. She graduated from Emmetsburg High School in 1974 where she enjoyed music and drama. She was an avid swimmer and had worked as a lifeguard. After High School Julia attended Iowa State University and Southwestern Community College.

She was united in marriage to Thomas Edwin Whitehill II and to this union, a son Zachery was born. Jul worked in the Clarke County Clerk of Court’s Office for over 20 and was presently serving as Clerk of Court.

Jul was united in marriage to James Patrick Cottrell on Sept. 6, 1997 at the St. Bernard Catholic Church in Osceola.

She leaves to cherish her memory: son, Zach Whitehill (Brandy) of Kansas City, MO and granddaughter Justice; her brothers, Tim O’Connor (Colleen) of Muscatine, and Bill O’Connor (Diane) of Muscatine.

Jul was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Hilda O’Connor.
