Jeanette Barber 1926-2008
RUTHVEN — Funeral service for Jeanette “Murf” Barber was Wednesday, Oct. 29, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ruthven. Concelebrants were the Rev. Peter Nguyen and the Rev. Tom Geelan.
Burial was in Calvary Cemetery, Ruthven. The Martin-Mattice Funeral Home in Ruthven was in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Barber died Sunday, Oct. 26, 2008, at Spencer Hospital. She was 82.
Helen Jeanette (Murphy) Barber was born Sept. 14, 1926, in Emmetsburg, the daughter of Morton and Emma (Soens) Murphy. She grew up in Emmetsburg and graduated from Catholic High School in 1944. Her friends called her “Murf.”
On June 14, 1950, Jeanette and Thomas Richard Barber were married. The couple made their home in Ruthven. Jeanette was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church where she taught Religious Education and participated in all women’s functions.
Survivors include her husband, Rich, of Ruthven; children: Pat (John) Custer of Indianapolis, IN, Tom (Kathy) Barber of Aberdeen, SD, Marcia (Tom) Hackett of Fort Worth, TX, Mike (Angela) Barber of Argyle, TX, Duane (Robin) Barber of Spencer, Roger (Sara) Barber of Chicago, IL, and Sara (Steve) Jakuc of Denver, CO; and her grandchildren.
Also surviving are brothers, Morton “Turk” (Alys) Murphy and Jack (Ann) Murphy; and sisters, Cecilia Girres and Carol Schuller.
Mrs. Barber was preceded in death by her parents, Morton and Emma Murphy; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Raymond and Lulu Barber; her sister, Louise Appelquist; and her brother, Francis.
