Jerry Walker 1944-2008
WHITTEMORE – Funeral Mass for Jerry Walker was celebrated Saturday, Oct. 25, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Whittemore with Father Victor Ramaeker officiating.
Burial was in St. Michael’s Cemetery with military rites conducted by American Legion Seely-Walsh Post #425.
Jerry passed away Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2008, at his home in Whittemore surrounded by his family, following a courageous fight against cancer
Jerry James Walker was born Sept. 2, 1944, the son of Robert and Catherine (Priester) Walker in Algona. After graduating from Garrigan High School in 1962, Jerry attended Auto Body Trade School in Omaha. He spent three years working in Carroll, before enlisting in the Air Force. He served from 1965 to 1968, serving one year in Viet Nam. Upon honorable discharge from the service he returned to Whittemore where he was employed by Elbert Chevrolet as a parts manager. Jerry retired this past June after almost 40 years of service.
On Aug. 8, 1970, Jerry was united in marriage to Pat Schumacher in Algona. They moved to Whittemore where they raised four children. Jerry lived his entire life in Whittemore. He was a 40 year member of the Seely-Walsh Post #425 American Legion and St. Michael’s Holy Name Society.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Pat; children, Karla of Whittemore, Scott and wife Shaunna of Lincoln, NE, Renee and husband Buddy of Whittemore, Chris and wife Jessie of Dubuque; and his two precious grandsons, Colby and Kayden Graves.
Also surviving are his sister Mary (Ron) Buscher of Monticello; and brothers, Dale (Maling) Walker, Dennis (Carol) Walker of Des Moines and Duane (Dana) Walker of Algona and many nieces and nephews.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents Robert and Catherine and two infant brothers.
