Wayne E. Rowe 1922-2008
Funeral service for Wayne E. Rowe of Spencer was Saturday, Oct. 11, at Grace United Methodist Church in Spencer. The Rev. Paul Hansen officiated.
Burial was in Lone Tree Cemetery, Sioux Rapids. The Martin-Mattice Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Rowe, 86, died Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2008.
Wayne Earl Rowe was born Oct. 3, 1922, to Harvey and Minnie (Messerschmitt) Rowe at Sioux Rapids. He was a 1940 graduate of the Cornell School.
Wayne was united in marriage to Virginia Lou Klatt on Oct. 27, 1945, at the Methodist Church in Sioux Rapids. Following the death of Virginia, Wayne married Jean Hill Rowe on Sept. 2, 1978.
Wayne farmed the family farm north of Sioux Rapids until moving to Spencer in 1985. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church of Spencer. Prior to that he had been a long time member of the Methodist Church of Sioux Rapids.
He was a member of Enterprise Lodge of Masons and Eastern Star for over 50 years and had earned a Thirty-Second Degree. Wayne was an active member of the Abu Bekr Shrine for over 60 years and a member of the Spencer ATV Corp.
Wayne served many years on the Clay County Conservation Board as well as on the Cornell School Board prior to it becoming part of the Sioux Rapids School.
Surviving are his wife, Jean of Spencer; two children, Tom (Janet) Rowe of Freeport, IL, and Teresa (Bob) Thorinson of Emmetsburg; two stepdaughters, Janice (David) Deedrick of Cherokee and Bobbi (Dennis) Meints of Steamboat Rock; five grandchildren, three step grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Mr. Rowe was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Virginia; son, Jeffrey; brother, Harold; and sisters Gladys Stone and Rosetta Davis.
