JoAnn Phillips 1927-2008
A Memorial Mass for JoAnn Phillips of Emmetsburg is 10:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 10, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Emmetsburg. Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery, Emmetsburg.
Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. today, Thursday, at the Joyce Funeral Home in Emmetsburg. A Catholic Daughter’s Rosary is at 4 p.m. and a vigil service is at 7:30 p.m.
Mrs. Phillips, 81, died Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2008, at PARC Hall in Emmetsburg.
JoAnn Phillips was born June 18, 1927, in Minneapolis, MN, the daughter of Joseph and Louise (DeGonda) Kerber. JoAnn’s father died of pneumonia prior to her birth, and JoAnn spent much of her childhood growing up with her cousins. She moved to the San Francisco Bay area as a child where she received most of her education.,
On Sept. 1, 1948, JoAnn and Jack Phillips were married at Assumption Catholic Church in Emmetsburg. The couple made their home in Emmetsburg where they raised their family. JoAnn worked most of her life as a seamstress, specializing in draperies.
She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, Catholic Daughters of the Americas, and the rosary group. She was active in the bridge, birthday and sewing clubs. JoAnn enjoyed embroidery, spending time as a volunteer at Palo Alto County Hospital and Share Iowa. Most of all, she loved being Mom and Grandma.
Left to cherish her memory are her children: Mary Dierbeck and husband, John, of Hudson, WI, Pat Phillips of Curlew, Susan Muth and husband, Terry, of Hawarden, and Annette Johnson and husband, Kurt, of Lakewood, IL; eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
JoAnn Phillips was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jack; daughter, Jane Phillips-Wuebker; and infant daughter, Ellen Ann Phillips.
