Virginia M. Spiker 1928-2008

Funeral service for Virginia Spiker of Cylinder is 11 a.m. today, Tuesday, Sept. 23, at the Martin-Mattice Funeral Home in Emmetsburg. The Rev. Luther Thoresen will officiate. Burial will be in Clinton Garfield Cemetery, Rolfe.

Visitation is today from 9:30 a.m. until time of service at the Martin-Mattice Funeral Home.

Mrs. Spiker, 80, died Friday, Sept. 19, 2008, at Spencer Municipal Hospital.

Virginia May Spiker was born May 2, 1928, in Cylinder, the daughter of Delbert and Minnie (Nelson) Johnson. She received her education in Cylinder and Rolfe Community Schools.

In May 1946, Virginia and Keith C. Spiker were married. Virginia was employed as a telephone operator and also worked at the Cylinder Grocery Store. She was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary in Emmetsburg.

Surviving are her children: Jim (Wanda) Spiker of Indianola, Terry Spiker of Brownfield, PA and Ruth (Mike) Coleman of Greenville; 12 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters, Jolene Hartlip of Texas and Eileen Onnen of Minnesota.

Mrs. Spiker was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Keith; two daughters, Nancy in infancy and Linda Salter; four brothers, Darrel, Delbert, Raymond and Ronald Johnson; and two sisters, Joan Schmeling and Doris Buechle.
