Harlan P. Smith 1951-2008
Harlan Paul Smith, 57, of Aurora, IL, passed away on Friday, Sept. 5, 2008 at Rush Copley Medical Center from a sudden ruptured aneurysm.
He was born April 5, 1951 in Emmetsburg, the son of Raymond and Esther, nee Johnson Smith. Harlan graduated from Mallard Community High School in Mallard, in 1969 and went on to graduate from Grinnell College in Grinnell. He was a program specialist for the U.S. Dept. of Health and Human Services in Chicago for over 30 years before retiring in June 2007.
His family members include his wife of 26 years: Robin, nee Agens Smith; his daughter: Lauren Smith; his parents, Raymond and Esther Smith of Curlew; two brothers, Raymond Brian (Carolyn) Smith of Addison, IL, and Sam (Mary) Smith of Oklahoma City, OK; their families: Brian’s daughter: Michelle (Nick) Padfield and their son, Brett of Bowie, MD; Brian’s son: Kevin Smith of Chicago, IL; Sam’s son: Charlie Smith of Omaha, NE; Sam’s daughters: Meghan and Katelynn Smith both of Oklahoma City, OK and Sam’s son; A.J. Smith of Norman, OK and the Agens’ family of the Cleveland, OH area.
Funeral services were held Monday, Sept. 8, at Dieterle Memorial Home in Montgomery, IL. The Rev. Dennis Gleason officiated. Burial followed at Riverside Cemetery in Montgomery, IL.
