Bertha P. Koenck 1940-2008

Funeral service for Bertha Koenck of Emmetsburg is 11 a.m. today, Thursday, Sept. 18, at Zion Lutheran Church in Ruthven. The Rev. Luther Thoresen will officiate.

Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Emmetsburg. The Martin-Mattice Funeral Home in Emmetsburg is in charge of arrangements.

Bertha died Sunday, Sept. 14, 2008, at the Good Samaritan Home in Laurens. She was 68.

Bertha Pauline Koenck was born April 6, 1940, in Emmetsburg, the daughter of Oscar and Ruth (Sampson) Lee. She received her education in Cylinder and Emmetsburg.

Bertha was employed as a C.N.A. at Lakeside Lutheran Home and Emmetsburg Care Center. She was also owner and operator of the Redwood Café in Emmetsburg. She worked at Emmetsburg Public Library and at the college library.

Surviving are her children: Dennis (Deb) Koenck of Houston, T X, Dan (Denise) Koenck of Laurens, David Koenck of Curlew, Jill Koenck of Burt, Kimberly (Ron) Hutchison of Mallard and Daren (Suzy) Koenck of Graettinger; 13 grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Also surviving are two brothers, Bernard Lee of Avoca and Jarrett Lee of Tuttle, OK; and four sisters, Beverly Banwart of Rogers, AR, Jeanine Lucy of Treynor, Donna Mundus of Waukee and Wanda Spiker of Indianola.

Bertha was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Dale and Ron Lee; and a sister, Betty Moen.
