Wilda L. Freeman 1915-2008
Funeral service for Wilda L. Freeman of Emmetsburg, formerly of Cylinder, is 10:30 a.m. today, Tuesday, Sept. 16, at the First United Methodist Church in Emmetsburg. The Rev. David A. Morris will officiate.
Honorary bearers are Mrs. Freeman’s granddaughters. Casket bearers are her grandsons.
Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Emmetsburg. The Martin-Mattice Funeral Home in Emmetsburg is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Freeman died Friday, Sept. 12, 2008, at Lakeside Lutheran Home in Emmetsburg. She was 93.
Wilda Lucille Freeman, daughter of William and Margaret Mae (Coburn) Thomson, was born Aug. 18, 1915, on her family’s farm near Rodman. She graduated from Rodman High School.
On March 28, 1936, Wilda and Paul F. Freeman were married. Wilda worked at Gard’s Store in Cylinder. After Paul’s death, she worked at the Cylinder State Bank.
Wilda was a member of the Congregational United Church of Christ in Emmetsburg for 60 years. After the church closed in 1998, she became a member of the First United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Fortnightly Club and numerous card clubs. Wilda loved to play cards and have coffee with her friends. She enjoyed wintering in Texas. Wilda also did volunteer work at Palo Alto County Hospital.
Surviving are her children, Paul W. Freeman (Nancy) of Cylinder, Donna Jensen (Roger) of Sioux City, NE, Margie Cody (Arnold) of Phoenix, AZ, and Robert Freeman (Stephanie) of Walker, MN; 16 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren. Also surviving is a sister, Margie Brown of Emmetsburg.
Mrs. Freeman was preceded in death by her husband, Paul; her parents; and a brother, John Thomson.
