Ilah Johnson 1927-2008
MALLARD — Funeral services for Ilah Johnson, 81, of Mallard, will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 5, at the United Methodist Church in Mallard.
Family and friends will also be honoring the life of Ilah’s son, Al, who passed away Aug. 20, in St. Petersburg, FL.
A visitation will be held from 4 to 8 pm today, Thursday, at the United Methodist Church in Mallard. Harris Funeral Home in Mallard is in charge of arrangements.
Ilah passed away Monday, Sept. 1, 2008, at her daughter’s home in Sheldon, after bravely battling a devastating disease.
Ilah Ruth, daughter of Henry and Mary (Drown) Brumm, was born Aug. 1, 1927, in Curlew. She spent her childhood years in Curlew and graduated from high school there in 1944. Ilah received her teaching certificate from Waldorf College in Forest City and taught at various schools in northwest Iowa for 12 years.
On June 4, 1949, Ilah married Richard Ralph Johnson in Curlew. The couple spent many years in and around the Curlew area where they raised sons Stephen and Alan and daughter LeAnna.
Ilah loved to travel and after their children were raised, Ilah and Dick spent many happy years in Arizona and Florida. Ilah loved to play games including tennis, golf, cards and Texas horseshoes. Her laugh will always be remembered.
Survivors include Ilah’s husband Richard; children Stephen Johnson of St. Petersburg, FL and LeAnna Swalley of Sheldon; daughter-in-law Maggie Johnson of St. Petersburg, FL; grandchildren Brad, Scott, Luke and Lydia; and great grandchildren Olivia and Sydney.
Also surviving are a brother, Elmer (Red) Brumm of Mesa, AZ; mother-in-law Doris Johnson of Emmetsburg; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Mrs. Johnson was preceded in death by her parents; son Alan; brothers Rolland, Henry Jr. (Hank) and Ivan (Ike); and son-in-law Mike Swalley.
