Lois Cody

Funeral service for Lois Cody of Emmetsburg is 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 27, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Depew. The Rev. David Moore will officiate.

Burial will be in South St. John’s Cemetery, Depew. The Martin-Mattice Funeral Home in Emmetsburg is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation is after 4 p.m. today, Tuesday, Aug. 26, at the funeral home.

Mrs. Cody died Sunday, Aug. 24, 2008, at Palo Alto County Hospital in Emmetsburg. She was 79.

Lois Ann Cody was born Jan. 2, 1929, in Emmetsburg, the daughter of George and Myrtle (Harvey) Harrison. She received her education in Cylinder, graduating from Cylinder High School.

On Nov. 14, 1947, Lois and Kenneth Cody were married at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Depew. Lois and Ken made their home on a farm near Cylinder.

Lois was a devoted homemaker, caring for her family and also working with Ken on the farm. She was a day care provider for 14 years. Lois loved to attend athletic events in which her children and grandchildren were active.

Lois was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Depew, where she was active in ELCW Circle and guild. She was also a member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary and active in the Senior Center and Northwest Aging.

Surviving are her children: David Cody (Patsy) of Pella, Jon Cody (Linda) of Richardson, TX, Becky Finer (Steve) of Emmetsburg, Mark Cody (Connie) of Sutherland, Steven Cody (Joni) of Emmetsburg and Kimberly Weihe of Sioux Falls, SD; 15 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

Also surviving are sisters, Dorothy Nase (Bud) of Mankato, MN, Marilyn Egland (Larry) of Emmetsburg and Janice Joynt (Jerry) of Clear Lake; and a brother, George Harrison (Donna) of Peterson.

Mrs. Cody was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth; her parents; brothers, Willard, James, Glen, Richard and Paul Harrison; and a sister, Betty Gjerde.
