Irene Drew 1905-2008
DUBUQUE — Funeral service for Irene Drew of Dubuque is 10 a.m Wednesday, Aug. 20, at St. Raphael’s Cathedral in Dubuque. Burial will be in St. John’s Catholic Cemetery, Emmetsburg.
Friends may call from 9 to 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Raphael’s Cathedral.
Mrs. Drew died Sunday, Aug. 17, 2008, at Heritage Manor. She was 103.
Irene (Conlin) Drew was born June 7, 1905, in Armstrong, the daughter of Patrick and Blanche Marie (Fronk) Conlin. She lived in Armstrong until age five when her family moved to Emmetsburg. Irene graduated from St. Mary’s Academy High School.
On May 27, 1935, Irene and Vincent Drew were married at Assumption Church in Emmetsburg. Irene worked as an egg candler at Larson Produce in Emmetsburg for many years. She was later employed at Emmetsburg Care Center.
Irene lived in the same home for more than 80 years. Her hobbies included needlework and gardening. She resided in Emmetsburg until 1996, when she moved to Dubuque to be near her daughter and her family.
Irene was always concerned about and compassionate for others and always made an effort to help whenever possible without desire for recognition. She looked for good qualities in everyone, and was greatly appreciative of kindness from others.
Survivors include a daughter, Patricia (Lawrence) Coyle of Dubuque; three grandsons, Michael (Heidi) Coyle of Maquoketa, Thomas (Molly) Coyle of Dubuque and Mark (Emily) Coyle of Surprise, AZ; two great grandsons, Joseph and Daniel Coyle of Maquoketa; and two great granddaughters, Anna and Grace Coyle of Maquoketa.
Irene was preceded in death by her husband, Vincent, on Nov. 4, 1959; her parents; and a brother, Donald Conlin.
An Irene Drew Memorial Fund has been established.
