M. Nona Twait 1914-2008

Funeral service for Nona Twait was held Monday, July 28, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Depew. The Rev. David Moore officiated.

Burial was in South St. John’s Cemetery, Depew. The Martin-Mattice Funeral Home in Emmetsburg was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Twait died Thursday, July 24, 2008, at Palo Alto County Hospital in Emmetsburg. She was 93.

Madeline Nona Twait, daughter of Peter and Neva (Jacobson) Randa, was born Aug. 12, 1914, at her family’s farm near Cylinder. She attended country school near Cylinder and then completed her education at Emmetsburg High School. She attended Business College in Omaha, NE.

On March 24, 1937, Nona and George L. Twait were married at her parents’ home near Cylinder. Nona was employed as a bookkeeper at the Weltzin Inland Store in Depew.

Nona was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Depew where she was active in church circle and teaching Sunday School. Nona served on the Resident’s Council for Lakeside Lutheran Home. She was also a member of the Sons of Norway and Danish Fellowship.

Surviving are her children: Gene and Della Twait of Cylinder, Norene and Daryl Carpenter of Fort Dodge, Gerald and Beverly Twait of Graettinger, and David and Maurine Twait of Longmont, CO; nine grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and three great, great grandchildren.

Also surviving are brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Rachel Randa, Nina Randa, Dorothy Twait, Donald Twait, LeRoy and Phyllis Twait, and Marjorie and Dale Jensen.

Mrs. Twait was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, George; a great grandson, Alex Samuelson; two brothers, Percy and Elmer Randy; a sister, Stella Bierstedt; brothers-in-law, Bernard, Oliver, Emmet and Gerhard Twait and Wilfred Bierstedt; and sisters-in-law, Ethel Osborn, Emma Larson and Anna Bleckwenn.
