Roy A. Nissen 1916-2008

GRAETTINGER — Funeral service for Roy A. Nissen of Graettinger is 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 25, at Bethel Lutheran Church in Graettinger. Pastor Tedd Rieke will officiate.

Burial will be in Lost Island Lutheran Cemetery Ruthven.

Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. today, Thursday, at Henry-Olson Funeral Chapel in Graettinger

Mr. Nissen died Tuesday, July 22, 2008 at the Good Samaritan Center in Estherville. He was 92.

Roy Arthur Nissen, the son of Ernest and Jeanette (Southworth) Nissen, was born March 26, 1916 in Spencer. He received his education in Summit Township school.

On Sept. 12, 1940 he was united in marriage to Irene Simonsen in Dakota City, NE. The couple farmed until 1944. Roy then worked for the creamery in Graettinger for 21 years and for Palo Alto County for 16 years.

Roy was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Graettinger and he enjoyed woodworking. He had 20 years on the Graettinger Fire Department.

Left to cherish Roy’s memory are his wife, Irene of Graettinger; his children, Myrtle Erb and her husband, Ted of Graettinger; Betty Jorgensen of Estherville; Dale Nissen and his wife, Barb of Estherville; William Nissen and his wife, Mary of Kettering, OH; Melinda Fisher and her husband, Phillip of Ankeny; six grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; brothers and sister, Robert Vanderhoff of Spencer; Marie Reeves of Graettinger; Eugene, Ronald, Dennis and Gary Nissen.

He has been preceded in death by his parents; son-in-law, Don Jorgensen; one brother, Lyle Anderson; sister, Vera McLaughlin and sister-in-law, Florence Vanderhoff.
