Harold “Gene” Coleman
Harold “Gene” Coleman of Emmetsburg died Wednesday, July 9, 2008, at Avera Hospital in Sioux Falls,SD. He was 74.
Funeral service for Mr. Coleman was Friday, July 11, at the First United Methodist Church in Emmetsburg. The Rev. David A. Morris officiated.
Inurnment was in Evergreen Cemetery, Emmetsburg. The Martin-Mattice Funeral Home in Emmets-burg was in charge of arrangements.
Harold “Gene” Coleman was born Aug. 20, 1933, in Ruthven, the son of Frank D. and Maude E. (Smith) Coleman. He attended school in Ruthven, graduating from Ruthven Community School in 1952.
On Oct. 2, 1954, Gene Coleman and Nola Carlson were married in Yankton, SD. To this union five children were born.
Gene worked for the Department of Transportation for 33 years before semi-retiring. He did landscaping and snow removal for several years, as well as driving truck for Ready Mix.
Gene was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Emmetsburg and also Kiwanis.
Surviving are his children, Randy Coleman of Washington, IA, Mike (Ruth) Coleman of Greenville, Joe Coleman of Sioux Falls, SD, and Tim Coleman of Spencer; 12 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
Also surviving are a brother, Lawrence (Bernadine) Coleman of Ruthven; sisters, Marlys Lee of Pequot Lake, MN, and Florence Malm of Emmetsburg; a very dear friend, Barb Schleisman; and a brother-in-law, Harold Johnson of Lake Havasu City, AZ.
Mr. Coleman was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Nola; his son, Mark; a sister, Kathleen Johnson; and brothers-in-law, Larry Lee and Darius Malm.
