Clara Jurries 1918-2008

Clara Jurries of Emmetsburg died Tuesday, June 24, 2008, at the Emmetsburg Care Center. She was 89.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Mrs. Jurries was Saturday, June 28, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Emmetsburg. The Rev. Clem Currans officiated.

Burial was in St. John’s Catholic Cemetery, Emmetsburg. The Joyce Funeral Home in Emmetsburg was in charge of arrangements.

Clara Jurries was born Sept. 7, 1918, in Armstrong, the daughter of John and Rosa (Bigger) Guinn. She was a 1936 graduate of St. Mary’s Academy in Emmetsburg.

On Sept. 30, 1941, Clara and Floyd Jurries were married in Emmetsburg. Clara began her career as a nurse’s aide in Oakdale. The couple returned to Emmetsburg after nine years and Clara worked at Palo Alto County Hospital. She later received her LPN license and worked at Medical Associates.

Clara enjoyed fishing, camping and trips to Arizona. Clara helped raise many of her nieces and nephews.

Surviving are two brothers, John Guinn, Jr. of Good Thunder, MN, and Dean Guinn of Fort Dodge; four sisters, Phyllis Henkins of Estherville, Leatrice Christensen of Lake City, Viola Morey of Livermore and Annalou Roberts of Macon, MO.

Mrs. Jurries was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; four brothers, Lavertis, Cyris, Duaine and Morris Guinn; and a sister, Bertha Pollmeier.
