MALLARD — Graveside service for Betty Colsrud of Mallard was Wednesday, June 25, at Rush Lake Cemetery near Curlew. The Harris Funeral Home in Mallard was in charge of arrangements.

Betty, 60, died Saturday, June 21, at the Emmetsburg Care Center in Emmetsburg.

Betty Louise, daughter of Wesley and Helen (Pettit) Hansen, was born Nov. 15, 1947, in Laurens. She was raised and educated in Mallard and graduated from Mallard High School.

In 1970 Betty married Paul L. Colsrud, Sr. in Emmets-burg. They later divorced. Betty raised Paul’s five children as her own with the help of her parents. Because of Betty, the children were able to leave foster care where they were placed after their mother’s death, and come to live together as a family.

As a lifelong resident of Mallard, Betty worked at various places in the area, including Berkley’s in Emmetsburg, her own ceramic shop in Mallard and SNC in Emmetsburg as a shift supervisor. Betty enjoyed making jewelry, working on the computer and spending time with family. She had a love for dogs, birds and pets of any kind.

Survivors include her sons and their wives, Paul Colsrud, Jr. and Roberta of Mallard, and Randy Colsrud and Jeri of Estherville; 11 grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents; and three daughters, Marie Reed, Paula Colsrud and Sheri Buettner.
