Patricia Joan Isom 1939-2008

Jun 24, 2008

Patricia Joan Isom, née Lovejoy, passed peacefully on May 11, 2008, surrounded by all of her children.

Mother of ten and countless others to whom she opened her home and her heart, she truly lived up to her birth surname. She was born to Charles and Verna (Kohlstedt) Lovejoy on April 14, 1939, on the farm near Ayrshire.

She is survived by her children (and their spouses): John (Anne), Eric (Ally), Laurie (Larry Peterson), Jeff, Casey (Jennifer), Shannon (Scott Bingham), Danielle, Ryan (Jennifer), and Kimberlee (Andrew Gomez), and 18 grandchildren; and her sister, Mary Lou (Wilmer Paine). A niece and nephew also survive.

She is preceded in death by an infant daughter.

She married Dr. W. E. (John) Isom in the St. George Temple of the Latter Day Saints on Sept. 6, 1962; and they later divorced.

Patricia attended Vernon #7 country grade school near Depew. She graduated from Emmetsburg High School in 1957. She then received her RN degree from the University of Iowa. She served at VA hospitals in Iowa City, and Seattle, WA. Their growing family lived in Yakima, WA and for 25 years in Fruitland, ID. For a brief time she returned to work as a pediatric nurse, but the progress of multiple sclerosis made her change her career and she sold products for the Nikken Company.

Patricia served others tirelessly, and had many friends from all walks of life. She loved her children, listened to them, and spent many nights helping with schoolwork. She could often be found late at night sewing dresses or making gifts for her children. She was talented, intelligent, and had a wonderful sense of humor. Multiple sclerosis began to take its toll on her body and she spent the last eight years in nursing facilities in Salt Lake City, near most of her children.

A memorial service and interment were held at Larkin Sunset Gardens in Sandy, UT, on Tuesday, May 13. Family members may be contacted through her daughter Danielle Isom at: caitsbooks@hotmail.com or her sister Mary Lou Paine at wpaine@cowboy.net .
