Floyd A. Fosnot 1922-2008

MALLARD — Floyd A. “Ping” Fosnot of Mallard died Monday, June 16, 2008, at the Emmetsburg Care Center. He was 86.

Funeral service for Mr. Fosnot is 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 20, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Mallard. The Rev. Ed Tiedeman will officiate. Lunch will be served at St. Mary’s Fellowship Center prior to the burial at Calvary Cemetery, Pocahontas.

Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. today, Thursday, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. A parish vigil service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Harris Funeral Home of Mallard is in charge of arrangements.

Floyd Fosnot, the son of Durwin and Martha (Ekland) Fosnot, was born April 13, 1922, in Curlew. He was raised and educated in Curlew, graduating from Curlew High School. He served his country as a First Lieutenant in the Air Force from 1943 to 1946. Floyd was hump pilot during the China-Burma-India Theater.

Floyd Fosnot and Marcella “Sally” Stoulil were married May 27, 1944. The couple lived and farmed in Curlew. After their retirement in 1991, the couple moved to town in Mallard. Sally died suddenly in 1992.

In July, 1997, Floyd Fosnot and Bev Nielsen Westerman were married. The couple continued to live in Mallard. Floyd entered the Emmetsburg Care Center in 2006.

Floyd was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and the American Legion Post in Mallard.

Survivors include his wife, Bev, of Mallard; children: Judy (Don) Miller of Mallard, Bill (Jessica Pinheire) Fosnot of Willows, CA, and Jan Nagle of Lewisville, TX; grandchildren: Jennifer (Todd) Hough of Graettinger, Mike (Kristen) Weller of Crestview, FL, Ashley Weller of Des Moines, Kris Kerr of Willows, CA, and Jamie (Chad) Perraut of Tarawa Terrace, NC; great grandchildren: Madison and Max Hough and Katelyn Weller; three step children, six step grandchildren and four step great grandsons.

Mr. Fosnot was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Sally; and two sisters, Gladys Kress and Violet McKiernan.
