Fahey A. Gress 1909-2008

OTTOSEN — Funeral service for Fahey A. Gress of Ottosen is 10 a.m. today, Tuesday, May 27, at the Apostolic Christian Church in West Bend. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Harris Funeral Home in West Bend is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Gress, 98, died Saturday, May 24, 2008, at the West Bend Care Center.

Fahey Ashton Gress, the son of William Jr. and Olive (Parsons) Gress was born Aug. 5, 1909, at Hamar, ND. He completed his education through the eighth grade. At the age of 14, he began working as a farm laborer. He moved to the Algona area in 1929 and worked on farms of relatives and acquaintances.

Fahey was united in marriage to Marie C. Gerber on Dec. 11, 1941. The couple moved to a farm by Ottosen in 1942 and farmed there for 32 years. Fahey and Marie retired from farming in 1974 and moved to West Bend.

Fahey was baptized in 1952 and was a member of the Apostolic Christian Church. He has resided at the West Bend Care Center for the last several years and will always be remembered for his generous smiles and contentment through his many years of hearing loss and lack of mobility.

Survivors include his wife, Marie; and his five children: Ray (Sandy) of Ames, Rodney (Sally) of Fort Lauderdale, FL, Cloyce (Carol) of Ottosen, Robert (Sue) of Emmetsburg and Connie (Joe) Gerst of Amana; 16 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.

Mr. Gress was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; and five sisters.
