Sheila Reding 1938-2008

Sheila Ann Reding was born June 11, 1938, in Mandan, ND, the daughter of Clement and Doris (Hogan) McEvoy. At a young age they moved to Missouri before they eventually settled in Algona when Sheila was a freshman in high school. She graduated from St. Cecelia’s Academy and then went on to nursing school at Mercy Hospital in Sioux City.

On Oct. 6, 1959, Sheila was united in marriage to Joel Reding at St. Cecelia Catholic Church in Algona. After their marriage they lived near LuVerne before moving to the Cylinder area in 1967. Sheila worked as a nurse for Dr. Bray for a short time before going to work at the Good Samaritan Society-Algona for 30-plus years.

Sheila enjoyed being with her family and especially spending time with her grandchildren. She also enjoyed reading, knitting, crocheting, birds, gardening and going for coffee with her friends. Sheila was a member of St. Michael’s Parish and St. Michael’s Rosary Society.

Sheila died Saturday, May 10, 2008, at her home in Cylinder. She was 69.

She is survived by her children, Steve and Chris Reding of Cylinder; Mary Kay and Todd Wegener of Fenton; Pat and Rich Laubenthal of Whittemore; Michael “Fred” and Susanne Reding of Cylinder; Pam and Heath Ellis of Pleasant Hill; and 13 grandchildren.

Also surviving are sisters, Grace Samuelson of Aurora, CO; Sharon Mogler of Mesa, AZ; Mary McEvoy of AZ; Susan McEvoy of Bella Vista, AR; sister-in-law, Janice McEvoy of Mesa, AZ, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Joel on Aug. 24, 1988; children, Charles, Joseph, Theresa, Sheila and baby Reding and a brother, Dick McEvoy.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 14, from 4 to 8 p.m. with a rosary at 4:30 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m. at the Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home in Whittemore.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, May 15, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Michael’s Catholic Church with Father Victor Ramaeker officiating. Burial will be in St. Michael’s Cemetery.
