Roger G. Gould 1955-2008
Roger Galen Gould, 55, died from complications of ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) on Saturday April 26, 2008, at his home in Ames. Visitation and Funeral Service were held on April 29-30 in Ames.
Roger was born April 29, 1955, in Estherville, son of Galen and Vivian (Smith) Gould. He graduated from Emmetsburg High School in 1973. He married Cindy (Thiel) on Dec. 29, 1973.
Roger and his family moved to Ames in 1986 where he graduated from Iowa State University in 1990. He was employed by the Iowa Department of Transportation as a Process Management Engineer, Highway Division. Roger retired from the DOT in 2006 as a result of his ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis).
Roger loved spending time with his family and friends, being outdoors and attending ISU athletics, especially wrestling and football. He was honored on April 2, 2008, by ISU Wrestling Coach Cael Sanderson as the ISU Wrestling Fan of the Year.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife Cindy of Ames, sons and daughters-in-law Shawn (Kristen) Gould of Eureka, CA; and Brian (Julie) Gould of Council Bluffs; mother Vivian Gould of Emmetsburg; sister Jan Gould of Portland, OR; brother Don Gould of Woodburn, OR; father-in-law Richard Thiel and fiance Betty Leners of Emmetsburg; five sisters-in-law, Jeannie (Dan) Reinders, Havelock; Connie (Mark) Cody, Sutherland; Ruth (Rob) Harlicker, Minneapolis, MN; Sharrie (Tim) Girres, Graettinger; Julie (James) Thiel, Emmetsburg; and many other relatives and friends.
Roger was preceded in death by his father Galen Gould, nephew Troy Gould, mother-in-law Beverly Thiel and brother-in-law James Thiel.
