Mrs. Goeders died Monday, March 31, 2008, at Palo Alto County Hospital in Emmetsburg. She was 84.
Rita Marcella Loring was born March 22, 1924, in Effingham, IL, the daughter of Jacob and Ursula (Wiwi) Loring. She attended country school. During Rita’s childhood, the Loring family came to Emmetsburg.
On Feb. 3, 1945, Rita and John Goeders were married at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Emmetsburg. Rita always stayed busy, raising her family, taking in ironing and, for a time, cleaning homes. Later she worked as a waitress for a number of restaurants and cafes. She found enjoyment in being around people and waited until her 81st birthday to retire.
Rita was an avid fisherman, and she would always drag John along with her. Years ago, they enjoyed camping trips and Saturday night dances. She loved surrounding herself with her family. She was a wonderful mother and friend.
Left to cherish her memory are five sons: Dennis (Gayle), Leo (Kathy), Mike (Deb), Joe (Lori), all of Emmetsburg, and George (Carolyn) of Northwood; her daughter, Susan Rice (Jack) of Emmetsburg; five sisters, Annabelle Walker of Emmetsburg, Alberta Spurlin of Madrid, Pauline Loring of Emmetsburg, Elizabeth Reinders (Jim) and Margaret Onken, all of Estherville; four brothers, Ed Loring (Nellie) of Blanco, AL, Ray Loring (Carol) of Emmetsburg, Larry Loring (Jean) of Ankeny and Frank Loring (Shirley) of Emmetsburg; 16 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
Mrs. Goeders was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John; and her brother, James Loring.
