Darius L. Malm 1926-2008

Funeral service for Darius L. Malm of Emmetsburg is 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 4, at the First United Methodist Church in Emmetsburg. The Rev. David Morris will officiate.

Burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery, Ruthven. The Martin-Mattice Funeral Home in Emmetsburg is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation is after 4 p.m. today, Thursday, April 3, at the Martin-Mattice Funeral Home.

Mr. Malm died Monday, March 31, 2008, at Mercy Medical Health Center in Mason City. He was 81.

Darius LeRoy Malm was born Sept. 25, 1926, in Gillett Grove, the son of Victor and Jennie (Crone) Malm. He attended the Wild Rose County School in Clay County and Gillett Grove High School, graduating in 1944. He farmed with his father in Clay County.

On Dec. 15, 1948, Duke Malm and Florence Coleman were married at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. The couple farmed in Clay County before moving to Palo Alto County in 1951.

Duke was a past member of the United Methodist Church in Ruthven. He had also served on the Ruthven Cooperative Elevator Board, DX Board and the Ruthven Community Care Center Board where he was active in fund raising for its development. Duke was curretly a member of the First United Methodist Church in Emmetsburg. His Bible and his quiet face in Christ have been a very important part of his life.

Surviving are his wife, Florence, of Emmetsburg; his children, Steven and Ruth Malm of Emmetsburg, Rebecca and David Johnson of Spencer, Suzanne and Roger Faulstick of Emmetsburg, and Kent and Tati Malm of Emmetsburg; 15 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.

Also surviving are a sister, Ardyce and Lorance Gritten of Ontario, CA; and a brother, Darrel and Doris Malm of Spencer.

Mr. Malm was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Dennis; a sister, Cleo Hancock; and brothers, Lowell, Jr. in infancy, LaVerne Malm and Loren Malm.
