Grace Freeman 1915-2008
Funeral service for Grace Freeman of Emmetsburg is at 1 p.m. today, Tuesday, April 1, at the Martin-Mattice Funeral Home in Emmetsburg. The Rev. Steve Ellerbusch, pastor of Bethany Lutheran Church in Emmetsburg, will officiate.
Casket bearers are Mrs. Freeman’s grandchildren. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Emmetsburg.
Visitation is from 12 noon until time of service Tuesday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Freeman died Thursday, March 27, 2008, at Lakeside Lutheran Home in Emmetsburg. She was 93.
Grace Freeman, daughter of Harry and Kathryn (Hickey) Ferguson, was born Jan. 3, 1915, near Emmetsburg. She received her education in Emmetsburg, graduating from Emmetsburg High School in 1932.
On Aug. 20, 1934, Grace and George D. Freeman were married in Elkader. Grace was employed at the J.C. Penney store in Emmetsburg for 15 years. She was a past member of the Congregational Church in Emmetsburg and was active in the ladies circle groups.
Survivors include her children: Jeanine and John Spies of Emmetsburg, Corrine and Jack Ashby of Iowa City, Dawn Hofstad of Emmetsburg, Linda and Roger A. Berkland of Emmetsburg, Judy and Ron Mullen of Emmetsburg, and George F. Freeman of Sallisaw, OK; 22 grandchildren and 41 great grandchildren.
Mrs. Freeman was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, George, on June 1, 1985; two brothers, Harry, Jr. and Everett; and four sisters, Laura Mortland, Marguerite Snyder, Mildred Lorig and Tessie Thake.
