Jeanne C. Stillman 1926-2008

Funeral service for Jeanne C. Stillman of Emmetsburg was Wednesday, March 26, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Emmetsburg. The Rev. Clem Currans officiated.

Burial was in Calvary Cemetery, Ayrshire. The Martin-Mattice Funeral Home in Emmetsburg was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Stillman died Sunday, March 23, 2008, at her home in Emmetsburg. She was 81.

Jeanne Corrinne Stillman was born Nov. 29, 1926, near Cylinder, the daughter of Anthony H. and Louise (Ludwig) Kajewski. She received her education in Cylinder and graduated from Cylinder High School.

On Feb. 1, 1947, Jeanne and Bernard J. Higgins were married in Whittemore. To this union two children were born. Bernard and Jeanne farmed in Palo Alto County until Bernard’s death on June 26, 1980.

Jeanne and Charles Stillman were married Aug. 21, 1982, in Emmetsburg. Jeanne was a faithful member of Holy Family Parish in Emmetsburg and Catholic Daughters of America. She was also a member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary and helped with Hospice of Palo Alto County.

Jeanne loved children. She shared this love with many children in the Emmetsburg area during the years she spent as a Head Start assistant.

Surviving are her husband, Charles Stillman of Emmetsburg; her children, John and Linda Higgins of Emmetsburg, Joan and Gary Beckman of Iowa City, Chuck Stillman, Jr. of Algona, Rose Mary and Bob Campney of Omaha, NE, Jerry and Alice Stillman of Graettinger, Tom and Lois Stillman of Emmetsburg, Joanne and Dave Garrelts of Emmetsburg, Karen and Duane McGregor of Algona, and Rich and Pam Stillman of Emmetsburg; 23 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

Also surviving are two sisters, Mary and Bruce Caruthers of Frederick, MD, and Pat Stoller of San Antonio, TX.

Mrs. Stillman was preceded in death by her first husband, Bernard; three sisters, Madonna Studer, Alice Nolan and Lois Sikora; and two brothers, Bernard Kajewski and Kenneth Kajewski.
