Florence G. Bendle 1920-2008
West Bend native Florence G. Bendle of Hooper, NE, died Thursday, Feb. 21, 2008, in the Fremont Area Medical Center. She was 87.
Funeral service for Mrs. Bendle was Saturday, Feb. 23, in the Ludvigsen Mortuary Chapel in Fremont, NE. The Rev. Jim Brooks of the Evangelical Free Church officiated.
A second service was held Monday, Feb. 25, at Bethany Lutheran Church in Emmetsburg. The Rev. Steve Ellerbusch officiated. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery, Emmetsburg.
Ludvigsen Mortuary and Martin-Mattice Funeral Home were in charge of arrangements.
Florence was born Aug. 7, 1920, in West Bend, the daughter of Omer and Bertha ‘Nelson’ Edwards. She grew up on the farm in the West Bend area.
On Aug. 4, 1942, Florence and Henry Frohling were married and the couple made their home in Emmetsburg. Her husband farmed and also sold insurance for Farm Bureau. Henry died in 1962.
Later, on Dec. 23, 1962, Florence was married to Ben Bendle in Hooper, NE. She had resided in Hooper since that time. Her husband, Ben, died in 1987.
Florence was a member of the Evangelical Free Church in Fremont, NE. She was interested in quilting and genealogy, and also spent a lot of time on the computer corresponding with family in Norway. She also assisted other people with their genealogy projects.
Survivors include a daughter, Jeannine and husband Kenneth Jorgensen of Hooper, NE; a son, Lon and wife Martha Frohling of Colorado Springs, CO; six grandchildren: Holly and Brad Jasmer of Royalton, MN, Kyle and Darcy Jorgensen of Omaha, NE, Peter Frohling of Pittsburgh, PA and fiancé Carley Thimmesh, Kristy and Nick Brinkman of Edwards, CO, Reed and Kate Jorgensen of Kansas City, MO and Matthew Frohling of Denver, CO; four grandchildren, Hunter, Caleb and Madison Jasmer, and Elliott Jorgensen.
Also surviving are a brother, Lyle and Betty Edwards of Emmetsburg; and a sister, Delores and Art Gagnon of Colorado Springs, CO.
Florence was preceded in death by her two husbands, Henry Frohling and Ben Bendle; her parents; a sister, Lois Jean; and eight brothers, Russell, Clarence ‘Bud’, Orrin, Harold, Leslie, her twin brother Floyd, Dick and Donald.
