Norma K. Beddow 1920-2008
RUTHVEN — Norma K. Beddow died Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2008, at Spencer Municipal Hospital. She was 87.
Funeral service for Mrs. Beddow was Saturday, Feb. 9, at the United Methodist Church in Ruthven. The Rev. Jim Gochenouer officiated.
Burial was in Silver Lake Cemetery, Ayrshire. The Martin-Mattice Funeral Home in Ruthven was in charge of arrangements.
Norma Katharine Beddow was born March 29, 1920, in Waucoma, the daughter of Claude and Emma (Tice) Mullen. She attended school in Ayrshire, graduating in 1937.
On April 2, 1938, Norma and Dale Beddow were married in Spencer. The couple farmed in the Ayrshire and Ruthven areas for over 40 years before moving to Ruthven in 1980. Norma was active on the farm, driving tractor, picking up rocks or doing any other task that Dale needed assistance with. She worked at the Clay County Fair for 26 years at Stub’s Ranch Kitchen.
Norma was an active member of the United Methodist Church and church circle in Ruthven. She was also a member of the Ruthven American Legion Auxiliary and Silver Lake Cemetery Society.
Surviving are her children: R. Dean Beddow and friend Leona Chadwick of Canyon, TX, Billy and Marilyn Beddow of Lennox, SD, Donna Thompson of Sioux Falls, SD, Danny and Lisa Beddow of Spencer and Sue and Rich Roste of Harrisburg, SD; eight grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and three step-great grandchildren. Also surviving is a brother, Bob and Ruth Mullen of Emmetsburg.
Mrs. Beddow was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dale on April 11, 2003; two brothers, Leonard and Bill Mullen; and a granddaughter, Abby.
