Lyman D. Bailey, Sr. 1916-2008
Lyman D. Bailey, Sr., died Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2008, at Mill Valley Care Center in Bellevue. He was 91.
Funeral service for Mr. Bailey is 10:30 a.m. today, Tuesday, Feb. 12, at the First Christian Church in Laurens. The Rev. Sara Galinda will officiate.
Burial will be in the Laurens Cemetery, Laurens. The Martin-Mattice Funeral Home in Emmetsburg is in charge.
Lyman Devilla Bailey, Sr. was born April 14, 1916, in Laurens. He received his education in the Laurens school district.
On March 1, 1942, Lyman Bailey and Vergene Lewis were married in Laurens. The couple made their home in Laurens where Lyman was employed at Ziegler Mobile Station. He also farmed for several year until his health forced him to retire in 1964.
Lyman worked for many years with his wife, Vergene, at the nursing home in Laurens. He also served as interim administrator at the Good Samaritan Home in Algona.
Lyman was a member of the Knights of Pythias and the Five Island Campers Club. He was a member of the first Christian Church in Laurens and the Evangelical Lutheran Good Samaritan Society.
Survivors include his children, Myrna Jean (Ivan) Heimbuck of Gatesville, TX, Wanda Rae (Ralph) Wedgewood of Salina, KS, and Lyman Devilla (Dixie) Bailey, Jr. of Bellevue; nine grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.
Also surviving are a brother, Jim (Bea) Bailey of Marathon; and a sister, Doris Richardson of Laurens.
Mr. Bailey was preceded in death by his parents; his wife,Vergene, on July 9, 1994; sisters and brothers, Joy, Kenny, Mildred, Don and Jewell.
