Howard E. Bierstedt 1928-2008
FENTON — Funeral service for Howard E. Bierstedt is 10:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 8, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Fenton. Pastor David P. Schultz will officiate.
Burial will be in St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery, Fenton. The Henry-Olson Funeral Home in Fenton is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation is today, Thursday, Feb. 7, from 4 to 8 p.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Fenton.
Mr. Bierstedt died Monday, Feb. 4, 2008, at his home in Lone Rock. He was 79.
Howard E. Bierstedt was born July 19, 1928, in Whittemore, the son of Ferdinand and Viola (Kressin) Bierstedt. He was raised on a farm one mile north and one-half mile east of Fenton.
On Feb. 18, 1947, Howard Bierstedt and Nina Muir were married in Fenton. The couple lived on a farm one mile north of Lone Rock until 1957, when they moved to a farm one mile south and one mile west of Lone Rock. In 1991, they moved into Lone Rock. Howard was a self employed farmer until the time of his death.
Over the years, Howard enjoyed bowling, playing cards, and playing all kinds of tricks on his children and grandchildren. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Fenton where he was Sunday School Superintendent for six years.
Grateful for having shared Howard’s life are his wife, Nina of Lone Rock; six daughters: Margret (Richard) Elbert of Algona, Kathryn (Roger) Kramer of Curlew, Jeannine (Ed) Mokrzycki of Medina, OH, Teresa (Rich) Blocker of Algona, Julie (Kenny) Schmidt of Carlisle, and Bethann (Mark) Olson of Fenton; 18 grandchildren: Dianne Starrett, Michelle Leith, Dana Barhite, Denise Cahalan, Lisa VanCleave, Lynnette Peterson, Darin Kramer, Brenda Jauer, Trisha Large, Nikki Mokrzycki, Nathan Hellman, Christina Hellman, Brian Blocker, Melissa Blocker, Mike Blocker, Allison Blocker, Kelcey Olson, and Kaleb Olson; and 15 great grandchildren. Also surviving is a sister, Doris Kemna of Grimes.
Mr. Bierstedt was preceded in death by a son, Wayne; daughter, Cheryl (Tom) Hellman; grandson, Richard Elbert, Jr.; granddaughter, Sara Blocker; son-in-law, Kenny Schmidt; his parents; and a sister, Eldora (Bob) Mitchell.
