Lois Cress Knudsen 1927-2008

RUTHVEN — Funeral service for Lois Cress Knudsen was Monday, Feb. 4, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ruthven. The Rev. Peter Nguyen officiated.

Burial was in Calvary Cemetery, Ruthven. The Martin-Mattice Funeral Home in Ruthven was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Knudsen died Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2008, at the Ruthven Community Care Center. She was 81.

Lois Cress Knudsen was born April 26, 1927, in Emmetsburg, the daughter of Raymond and Marcella (Foy) Goddard. As a young girl, Lois and her family moved to Ruthven where she attended school. She graduated from Ruthven High School in 1946.

On April 5, 1951, Lois and Dean “Froggie” Cress were married in Ruthven. Lois was employed at Wigdahl Hardware and the Ruthven State Bank for many years. She also worked at the Martin Funeral Home in Ruthven.

After Dean’s death in 1984, Lois was married to Russell Knudsen in Ruthven. Lois and Russell enjoyed their winters in Texas and traveling throughout the United States.

Lois was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Ladies Guild in Ruthven. She was also a member of the Ruthven American Legion Auxiliary.

Surviving are her step children: Larry and Marlene Knudsen of Dickens, Richard and Judy Knudsen of Dickens, Linda and Jerome Mykietyn of Wayne, NJ, and Paul and Natalie Knudsen of Mankato, MN; ten step grandchildren and many step great, great grandchildren.

Also surviving are two brothers, Raymond and Ann Goddard of Waterloo and James Goddard of Portland, OR.

Mrs. Knudsen was preceded in death by her husband, Dean; her husband, Russell; her parents; a sister, Jean Mattheis; and three brothers, William Goddard, Joseph Goddard and Robert Goddard.
