Arnold C. Heldt 1926-2008
MALLARD — Funeral service for Arnold C. Heldt of Mallard is 10:30 a.m. today, Thursday, Jan. 31, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Mallard. The Rev. Neil Hayen will officiate.
Burial will be in Rush Lake Cemetery, Mallard. The Harris Funeral Home of Mallard is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Heldt died Sunday, Jan. 27, 2008, at the Muse Norris Hospice Center in Mason City. He was 81.
Arnold Christian Heldt was born May 18, 1926, in Calumet, the son of John and Elsie (Clausen) Heldt. He was raised and received his education in Curlew, graduating from Curlew High School in 1943. Arnold attended Iowa State University before entering the U.S. Army, serving from 1945 to 1946.
On June 21, 1953, Arnold Heldt and Donna Obermoeller were married in Sioux City. Donna preceded her husband in death Aug. 10, 1957.
On May 13, 1959, Arnold was married to Arlene Struecker in Whittemore. The couple lived and farmed in Mallard.
Arnold was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, the Mallard American Legion and the Palo Alto County Republican Party. He served as Ellington Township Trustee.
Surviving are his wife, Arlene; sons, Tim (Debra) of Johnston, David of Ely, and Neal of Mallard; daughters, Karen (Jay) Heldt Chapman of Urbandale and Diane Heldt of Cedar Rapids; and four grandchildren, Jim, Erin, Alex and Dan.
Also surviving are a brother, Carl, of Mallard; and a sister, Anna Hillmer of Spencer.
Mr. Heldt was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Donna; a son, Tom; and a brother, Herman.
