Elton C. Baker 1920-2008
MALLARD — Funeral service for Elton Baker of Mallard is 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 25, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Mallard. The Rev. Verne Stapenhorst will officiate.
Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Pocahontas.
Visitation is Thursday, Jan. 24, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Harris Funeral Home in Mallard.
Mr. Baker died Thursday, Jan. 17, 2008, in Mesa, AZ, at age 87.
Elton C. Baker was born Dec. 20, 1920, in Havelock, the son of Blanchard D. Baker and Estella Mae Arnold. He received his education in Plover, graduating from Plover High School. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1942 until 1945, during World War II.
On June 20, 1946, Elton Baker and Marcella Lang were married at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Laurens. The couple lived in the Mallard area where Elton farmed. He also worked for Medford Industries in Laurens and the West Bend Elevator Company in Mallard. He spent many years as a school bus driver for the West Bend-Mallard school system. Elton was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
Survivors include his wife, Marcella of Mallard; children, Dena Moragues of Colorado Springs, CO, Vonita Brown of Statesville, NC, Galen Baker of Oregon, WI, and Renae Lenhardt of Plymouth, MN; 14 grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.
Mr. Baker was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Marion.
