Olga E. Arnold 1926-2008
MALLARD — Olga Arnold, long time Mallard resident, died Saturday, Jan. 5, 2008, while a resident at Lakeside Lutheran Home, Emmetsburg.
A Funeral Mass for Mrs. Arnold will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 9, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Mallard. Burial will be in Powhattan Cemetery, Plover.
Visitation is from 4 to 7 p.m. today, Tuesday, at the Harris Funeral Home in Mallard. A Rosary will be recited at 4 p.m.
Olga Ether Arnold was born June 10, 1926, in San Juan, Puerto Rico, the daughter of Rose Agularia and Louis Ortiz. At the age of 12 she moved to New York where she was raised and received her education. After high school she worked at a law firm as a translator of four languages.
While in New York, Olga met and married her late husband, Edward Jay Arnold. They were married for over 60 years.
Olga and Jay farmed in the Mallard area for over 60 years. She also assisted with her husband’s real estate and auctioneering business.
Olga was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Mallard where she was active in numerous veteran, civic and voluntary organizations. She will always be remembered for her love and talent for music, painting, singing, dancing and community leadership.
Mrs. Arnold is survived by her three sons, George (Nancy) Murphy of Richmond, VA, Tom (Jean Marie) May of St. Petersburg, FL, and David (Mary) Crotty of Scottsdale, AZ; nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Also surviving are her sisters, Esther Camacho of Miami, FL, and Monsita Ortiz of Puerto Rico.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Jay Arnold; and her brothers, Louis Ortiz, Jr. and William Ortiz.
