Eugene W. Wigdahl 1927-2007

Funeral service for Eugene (Gene) Wigdahl, 80, of Emmetsburg is 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 7, at Bethany Lutheran Church in Emmetsburg.

Visitation is Sunday, Jan. 6, from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Martin-Mattice Funeral Home in Emmetsburg.

Mr. Wigdahl died Sunday, Dec. 30, 2007, at the Naples Community Hospital, Naples, FL. He had been visiting family during the Christmas season.

Eugene W. Wigdahl was born Feb. 6, 1927, in Ruthven, the son of Selmer (Sam) and Louise (Hofstad) Wigdahl. He graduated from Ruthven High School in 1944 and later from St. Olaf College in Northfield, MN.

Gene owned and operated Wigdahl Hardware in Emmets-burg for over 30 years. Gene served on the Emmetsburg Airport Board, Bethany Lutheran Church Board and he had been a long-time member of the Iowa Retail Hardware Association.

Gene was awarded the Emmetsburg Rotary Business and Industry Award of Merit in 2000 and the Charles Hughes Citizen of the Year Award in 2006.

Uncle Gene was considered a second father to Marvin and Evelyn Wigdahl’s six children. He is survived by his sister-in-law, Evelyn Wigdahl; his nieces and nephews, Janet and Tom Greenaway of Naples, FL, Steven and Keri Wigdahl of Naples, FL, James Wigdahl of Boston, MA, John and Nicola Wigdahl of Minneapolis, MN, and Joanne and Vincent Zanotti of Des Moines; 11 great nieces and nephews, and six great, great nieces and nephews.

Gene Wigdahl was preceded in death by his parents; a brother Marvin Wigdahl; and a nephew David Wigdahl.
